Ready to Remodel?
So, you’re considering a remodeling project. You may have drawn a few sketches and have a basic idea of what you want. But where to go from here? This is where most people get stuck. Sometimes for months, other times for years.
Unless your last name is Rockefeller, you probably want to know what your project will cost so you can decide whether it’s feasible to move forward at this time. In order to determine this, most people end up calling a number of different companies ranging from general contractors to designers and individual subcontractors to try and get an idea of what things cost. Unfortunately, this ends up being a waste of time for everyone. Why? Because no reputable company can give you a firm bid before you have three things: 1) a scope of work, 2) a finish schedule, and 3) the appropriate drawings. If they do, you can be assured that there will be extra costs that pop up on your project. Regardless of how small you think your project may be, you still need these 3 things. These 3 things comprise the "design".
On the other hand, if you start design before you’ve determined feasibility (and whether you can afford it or not), then you just might find that you have a design that’s outside of your budget. In other words, you are likely to end up with a design that you can't afford to build. And that's a waste of your time and money.
So what’s the alternative to playing the premature bidding game or investing thousands of dollars in a design that may be outside of your budget? DreamBuilders pioneered the “Fees-Ability” evaluation as a way to help potential clients sort through the myriad of decisions they need to make before committing fully to their project. It allows clients to determine whether they can move forward with their project at this time by helping them answer the questions of the 3-way test.
The 3 way test of the DreamBuilders Fees-Ability evaluation simply answers the following questions.
· Can I do what I want?
· Will it solve my problems?
· Can I afford it?
The Fees-Ability evaluation process is the first step of planning or the "pre-design" stage for those who are serious about their remodeling project and would like professional help in determining the best way to proceed and a realistic budget. It takes into account all aspects of the project that must be considered in a systematic, organized, and easy to understand fashion. The information is collected and provided in three visits with you. Here’s how it works.
Visit 1: The owners, Mike and Kathe Russell, a contractor and an interior designer, meet with you in our well appointed showroom, discuss your project, your goals, and get an idea of what your style and preferences are. This is the beginning step for creating a realistic budget and investment level for your project. It is an also an opportunity for you to check us out and see if we're a good fit to help you with your entire project. If you like what you see and you feel comfortable with us, we move to visit 2.
Visit 2: Mike and Kathe meet again with you, this time in your home. They evaluate the condition of your home, take measurements and discuss ideas and possibilities of what can be done. This visit is normally about 2 hours, depending on the size and scope of your project. This visit gives them the information that they need to prepare an extensive preliminary scope of work and budget for your project, often with multiple scenarios.
Visit 3: Mike and Kathe meet with you in our showroom to present you with a preliminary scope of work and budget. They often include good, best, and better budgets for your project, if appropriate. They will also present you with a customized design proposal that outlines everything you need to understand what's involved in planning your project. If you decide that it is feasible to move forward and you would like to continue working with us, the next step is to enter into a design agreement and create a schedule for planning your project.
Costs: There is no charge for our first visit with you which is held in the showroom. If you would like for us to come out to your home and want to move forward with the Fees-Ability evaluation, there is a nominal fee based on the size of your project. This fee will be applied towards your design agreement, should you decide to hire us.
